I get the feeling that some on here have already written Sami off even before a puck drops. True, I think and hope that they will be pleasantly surprised.

Agreed, totally and I hope the guys come in and adjust to make a hugely positive impact. However that still doesn't help us recover points we've already lost which some may argue were lost due to playing short staffed without key players. I can see both views. On the McAslan front if he's fit, ready to play and happy to be a 'spare import' then why has it taken until December to do a deal? Taken from the NEP: But these things have to be done and there may well be more on the way, because we wouldn't rule out other signings – and not just McAslan. He would have been a great pick up when Jeff Heerema was hurt back in September. That's when we initially made contact with him. But because he was not doing enough fitness work, he decided not to come. We left the offer open and Mac's since been skating every day with a view to coming over and slotting in.We think he's worth waiting for and hopefully it will happen, but he has one or two issues to clear up first. Champagne forced our hand, of course. 3 months to get fit? What state was he in when we first contacted him and who was advising him on fitness levels, Ricky Hatton?

3 months to get fit? What state was he in when we first contacted him and who was advising him on fitness levels, Ricky Hatton? That's a little unfair. There is a hell of a difference between what we see as 'fit' and what he considers 'match fit'. Given the professional attitude McAslan always seemed to have I'm guessing his opinion on what is 'match fit' is very high.

No offence meant to Sean, but 3 months to get match fit for the EIHL is an epic amount of time by anyone's standards. Jonny Vegas could get match fit in that time. Most athletes (and sports scientists) seem to believe you can't get truly match fit without playing competitive games anyway. Still, it's a welcome return and I wasn't questioning Sean or his attitude at all - I just don't believe this was really being pursued as an option fully until now. Hey ho, that time has gone, welcome back Sean, one of the best players I've had the fortune of seeing in a Panthers jersey and it might just convince me to buy a match ticket for his return.

Hang on a minute, you have no idea what else sean has had to be doing. Im sure he isnt just sat at home with nothing else to do. You also have no idea how much ice time he has been able to get to do any training.

I am questioning the inference that this move was a serious option in September. Whilst I'd be fairly sure this isn't the case with Sean, if any player is too busy doing other stuff to get themselves fit enough, quickly, when a club like Panthers come knocking then I'd question if they are committed enough. The offer would, of course, have to be a serious one.
