Looking at the past few seasons - not just this one - I would strongly dispute this (as regards Nottingham - can't speak as to Belfast). Saturday night is traditionally hockey night in Sheffield and when we tend to get our best attendances. Over the last couple of seasons you've had considerably more home games on a Saturday night compared to us (Not including Ice Sheffield games). This season for example we don't have any home games against Nottingham on Saturday, whilst all yours against us fall on the Saturday (except the Christmas fixture). The last couple of season have been the worst ever I can remember for the Steelers with regard to fixture dates, although last seasons weren't bad initially until Hull did the hokey cokey. Perhaps the lack of Saturday night fixtures reflects the lack of credibility as a going concern the Sheffield Steelers have in the eyes of the arena.
If they brought in decent crowds on the Saturday's they do have perhaps they'd get more but is it really worth the arena's interest to give up a prime slot for such a generally poorly attended event?

No. It's simply the fact that concerts bring in significantly more money than hockey...that's car parking, rental, ticket booking fees...they get the dates they want. Exactly the same as in Nottingham. As Shaggy points out above, the Panthers don't get as many Saturdays as previously. So do the Panthers lack credibility with the NIC? Or is it just because of my argument above? Chris

Their can only be two reasons why a club would not want to publish the crowd figure. 1. Because they are ashamed of how low it is. 2. Because they are hiding something from somebody,or fudging some figures. There is a third reason why they don't want to publish - because they don't know. I would hope that all teams know how many punters come through the door but maybe they can't be bothered to count.

As for Ice Sheffield games lowering the average attendance, how does that work then ? If the Steelers were selling it out when playing there so you couldn't physically get any more people in then yes,but if there were only 1200 at Ice Sheffield for a game then there would presumably only be 1200 for that same game at the arena ! It doesn't quite work like that. There are a lot of Steelers supporters who don't like Ice Sheffield and won't attend games there, I know of 2 who sit near us. Regards Doom Same here Doom. Go to nearly all of the Arena games but only been to Ice Sheffield 3 times in all the time we've been using that facility. There have been plenty of games that were played at IS over the years that I would have gone to if they had been at the Arena. I can think of at least a dozen other people who have done the same too.

Right then: Arena games: 4403 av Ice Sheffield games: 1276 av All home games: 3569 av So you can all see that having games at IS pulls the average down by almost 1100. However, the club has never failed to make money from games played at IS. Going on those figures, I don't think an Arena average of around 4400 is bad at all. Granted, we don't know how many free tickets have been at each game but they will be doing the job if people then pay to come back. I seriously do wonder sometimes. It's taken the Panthers 10 years to get the average crowds they are getting now. That's 10 years of good marketing, good promotions etc. Our attendances have been bad for a number of years, it will take time to rebuild this. I certainly get the feeling when looking around on game nights that things are slowly moving in the right direction. Financial sustainability isn't just down to attendances though. You have to get good sponsorship, good merchandise etc We've certainly done that this year. Our merchandising is good (too much Orange though), sponsorship looks good and the 50/50 draw (although maligned by people on here) is putting around £800-£1000 per week into the club. Everything helps, no matter how insignificant it seems. Especially when you have a £300,000 shortfall to start with.
