Message from Dave Simms to all on Steel Talk - sent via e-mail
Dear Steelers Supporters, Well its been a while since we had three straight wins to cheer over hasn't it. Credit to Rob Stewart and the boys though, I know our full support is and always will be with whoever coaches and plays for our team. All is not well though is it! You don't have to be a mastermind just to fell that all is not bouncing at the arena, it feels like we are there out of duty rather than out of enjoyment and that's what always made a visit to the Steelers so enjoyable and so different. You will have read in last weekends programme that Norton is again considering a sale of the club, his words not mine. From Norton's comments he is in advance negotiations with potential new owners. A new start and a new chance for our great club. Looking ahead, our next home game is just under 2 weeks away against Coventry Blaze on Saturday 23rd October (Face Off 7.00pm. What better way to show any new interested buyer of the Steelers that the support still exists for our club than to make this game the best supported game of the year so far. This is not a club-marketing plea, this is a simple request from me, the longest serving Family member, to you, all of the Steelers family. Call it a huge favor on my part. So if you haven't been to any game for a while, or still are one of our most loyal supporters lets make the 23rd October another great Steelers night. Bring those old friends of your who haven't been to game this year, bring those new next door neighbors. Just please help me in bringing who you can. Also, bring one extra thing with you on the 23rd would you. A smile, as well as filling those empty seats we need to raise a smile, bring a cheer, make some noise, make people want to come back and become committed Steelers as we are. This e-mail is being sent to all Steelers family and fans on our web site forum, if you know other supporters people you think would be interested in seeing the Steelers Vs Blaze game then pleases forward this mail to them. The Steelers have won their last 3 games, lets see if we can beat this Coventry team who are trying to win our league championship trophy from us. See you on the 23rd. The Arena Box Office is 0114 2565656 David Simms

The last sentence is priceless. Norton was so grateful for Darling arriving early and sorting out houses for the players that he brought back a whole bottle of whisky from his holidays for him !!! Not just half a bottle !! True South Yorkshire generosity Well it was an expensive and rare bottle, but I suspect it was an empty one ;D Anyway, Norton lives in Nottinghamshire

Anyway, Norton lives in Nottinghamshire Yep he does - he's actually on of us and we sent him north as a Trojan horse to undermine you from within. The plan seems to be working quite well really...

Poor old Uncle Nort appears to have finally lost the plot ... Time for 'the family' to find a retirement home for him. Some people (was going to use "of us" but I'll not be that controversial) have been looking for his "retirement home" for some time, just taking a bit longer than expected to get him to go there

Except for the Trophies that he still managed to get the team to win during his stint in charge and his excessive caution when spending money on "team" things, surely that wasn't part of "the plan" was it Steve ;D

Proved harder to break that winning habit than we expected but progress is being made. ;D Just got to get the next step organised..... got to get those flight tickets off to McSorley. ;D Norton would prefer him to catch the bus though....

I Don,t blame Dion for mouthing off , but next time a doctor is stiching his lip up and Norton is footing the bill , the temptation may be to sew the lips together to stop him spouting to the press ;D that gives me a thought what if Dave Sims split his lip with a flying puck , a bigger temtation to sew his lips together methinks As for Dions kit not being paid for by Norton because of the Vat , why didn't he offer to deduct the 17.5 vat until reciepts where produced and pay the other 82.5% out to Dion

In most organisations expenses are only reimbursed on production of a VAT receipt, so this is a standard practice and its Darling's fault for not producing the receipts. Also, inland revenue/customs and excise rules on reimbursement of expenses are VERY fiddly and often tailor made schemes are set up, usually involving the need for VAT receipts. If Norton reimbursed without such receipts he is liable to be in big trouble and also cause expense to the other players (who may then be taxed on the expenses reimbursed). The whole area of employees incurring expenses is horrendously complicated

Hmm, cant imagine Man Utd begging people to come to Old Trafford can you. Its all a bit embarrsing for Simms. Having his big mate Thompson bringing his team up th the TinShed to play in front of 2 men and a dog. Can you imagine the conservation: Simms : "Hi Thommo" Thompson: "Er Hello" Simms: "Welcome to the House of Steel" Thompson: "When are the spectators going to be let into the Arena" Simms: "Er.., they have been let in!!" Thompson: "You want me to be a coach here!!" Simms: "Oh yes please, please, please will you be our coach" Thompson:"Not likely, I want my team to play in front of an audience" Simms: "I wont be your friend if you don't come" Thompson: "Wont you!! Oh good, wheres that 10 year contract Blaze have asked me to sign!!" LOL HL

Hmmmm... here's a thought...... If the Steelers are such a 'family' as Simms keeps claiming ("the longest serving Family member" - excuse me while I puke! ) and Dion Darling is "The Daddy" - what does that make the rest of them? Norton Lea is obviously Grandad - but what about Simms? - could he be the weird uncle with strange habits that the rest of the family prefer not to talk about? ;D ;D

They sound a bit like an ameture team at the moment. I think it gets a bit bad when players have to order there own kit and pay for it themselfs. As for the doctor thing, dont they HAVE to have a doctor there for safety reasons? Making a player go home and wait for a doctor to come and sort it out is a bit bad for a professional team.

And potentially dangerous depending on the severity of the injury - they haven't thought it through have they?

I personally think Dion is highly respected in the Elite League. As Steelers Captain he gains great respect from the players, managment and the fans, as an enforcer he gets respect from other Elite League players and as a class defenseman he gets respect from anyone who can appreciate good hockey. If he's not happy in Sheffield I'd gladly make a space for him in our defence!

Also didn't realised that they owned the league trophy- thought they only won it last year

For the sake of UK ice hockey you gotta hope the shambles is resolved swiftly so that the sport can flourish up there. I agree completely here. I don't like steelers on the ice but: 1) I wouldn't wish any team this mis-fortune (imagine if it was us!) 2) This could be so bad for the British Ice Hockey scene I love hockey with a real passion and the last thing i want is for another team to disappear! To all the Steelers Staff, Players and Fans, i wish you all the very best of luck in getting this sorted out. Ming x
