Well it certainly got us some er... publicity. When was the last time we had 4 articles about us in the press.
I have to say 1. I am not surprised this has happened and 2. I am not surprised it is Dion who did it.

The last sentence is priceless.
Norton was so grateful for Darling arriving early and sorting out houses for the players that he brought back a whole bottle of whisky from his holidays for him !!! Not just half a bottle !!
True South Yorkshire generosity

If this is a true retrospect from inside the Steeler Camp, I am also not suprised that it Would be Darling to speak up first. Surely he wouldnt want Mcsorely in as Coach??? or is that rumour Officialy dead?

Shambles aint it ;D ;D
What is Simms going to say. The Stir is meant to be a flag of convienice for the Steelers organisation is spit out its vitriole and accusations about everything non Steelers.
Seems as though the worm has turned.
May it continue....... ;D

For the sake of UK ice hockey you gotta hope the shambles is resolved swiftly so that the sport can flourish up there.

On a serious note, its quite appaling what happened last weekend.
Thankfully the injury 'only' required 6 stiches, but what if there had been a far more serious injury.
I hope the Elite League and the IIHF look at this and take action (if they can) against the Steelers.
Being a shambles of an organisation is one thing, but when you potentially put players lives a risk, thats a whole different matter.

Reassuring to know that Steelers' problems can be solely explained by the deficiencies of one man, Mr. Lea.
So, nothing to do with making a complete c**k up of the summer recruitment process then? Nothing to do with St. MWB, nothing to do with that brummie burke?
As much as I find him odious, Simms really does know how to spin a story. Come to think of it, can anyone claim to have seen him and Alistair Campbell in the same room at the same time?

If their own players are turning then that shows just how bad the organisation has become, especially potenitally risking his own career in the process of speaking his mind and saying how it is in the organisation.
The correct equiptment must be used to ensure the player can play properly, safely and at their best - you can see why they aren't happy about that.
As for their health, they should be looked after. 1, 2, 6 stitches, the amount isn't relevant - they should be looked after regardless of their injury, and if the organisation can't give them that, then they need their heads banging - it needs sorting.
Very poor in my opinion.

Well i do question the timing of the outburst considering Steelers just had their best weekend so far.
It also seems there was a doctor present just without the right kit now whos to blame there? i say the Doctor as i'm sure Norton Lea would have accepected him/her to be fully kitted out
Oh and the line about the bottle of Whiskey, Absoloutly priceless

Just a few comments on todays news:- 1. I'm not surprised, I've heard grumblings of discontent from the players for quite a while now. Norton wants the players to come half way around the world to act like professionals and entertain us, then he goes and treats them like amateurs. Well said Dion, this could be good news for the future of our club....next owner please. 2. As Captain of the double winners, one of the toughest players in the league and a damn good hockey player as well, I'm sure Dion does command a lot of respect amongst his fellow professionals. 3. Considering most people are describing our club as a shambles at the moment, I think it's amazing we're playing 50% hockey at the moment, just imagine how the players will perform when all the problems are ironed out. 4. What does this have to do with Dave Simms? This is quite clearly a disagreement between the player(s) and the owner, I don't think Dave Simms name was mentioned in the article . Regards Doom

A doctor might of been able to come to him, but he wasn't meant to be helping steeler by the looks of things as they said he was at Ice sheffield and not the arena. So you can only blame the club and norton.
Also where was the paramedic people (st johns (or what ever Even though there not the best they are better than nothing.)) they should of had stictches with them and if they weren't there, what would of happenened if there was a more serious injury.

AS the Press/Media Officer he would have been aware of what was going to be printed in the Star. With such a disgraceful situation, an Official Statement clarifying the Steelers position is absolutly essential. Lets face it, Simms couldnt get the allegations about wage caps into the Star quick enough. You cant have the Star as a flag of convience when it suits, and then distance yourself when it doesnt. Incidently most people are saying the Ice Hockey Club are a shambles, not the players. There is a difference my fiend. Regards HL

The club were advised by the Star of the comments made and given the opportunity to respond. The official reply came (rightly, IMO) from the owner, Norton Lea, and was also printed in the Star.
DS has clarified the position re: the doctor, they had a back-up doctor who pulled out at the 11th hour and one had to be found at short notice.
Of course, you're already aware of this, having spent as much time poo poo-stirring on our forum as you have on this one and on THF.
Sometimes, poo poo happens at a hockey club. Next time it may be the Panthers. Who knows, maybe it already has and there weren't any injuries requiring a doctor? There but for the grace of god go I and you would do well to remember that.
(1) Dion's said his piece as club captain, as he is entitled (and, may I say, has a duty) to do. (2) Norton has made his response as he is entitled to do. (3) The Star have acted properly in getting both sides of the story and publishing both. (4) DS was aware but didn't have to do owt, so didn't. Not that that was ever going to be good enough for you lot, but what's new there?

At every home game that i have been too(which is pretty much everyone for 4 or 5 years), we have had our team doctor there, plus two more standing where the zamboni comes out incase of a more serious injury requiring hospital treament or a strectcher.
I think also they always have our team doctor or physio with them for away games (unlike some teams both elite and BNL eg Guildford)

Not that that was ever going to be good enough for you lot, but what's new there? So it appears that when DS attempts to throw mud at Panthers, Racers, etc etc he is the Press/Media Officer (he cant get his vitriole in Powerplay magazine, or the Sheffield Star quick enough when it comes to wage caps or slagging off Roger Black), but when theres a problem its left to someone else to do all the explaining. How very, very convieient. We could'nt have mud sticking to our David now could we? I appreciate your hero worship of DS, but I'm afraid were not all so coverted. Yes a Dr was found at the 11th hour...dragged over from Ice Sheffield. What a professional set up you have up there. Shame he couldnt actually do what Doctors are meant to do, but hey he was a Doctor so the game sheet could be signed!! I wonder when the next calamity happens in Sheffield will it be DS who does the explaining, or will someone else be wheeled out?? I'm afraid he can't have it both ways. Some of the mud he slings about will stick on him you know. Regards HL PS Some of your fellow Steelers have something to say about the Stars reporting, take a butchers at SteelTalk.
