D'Amour I wouldn't have back due to what we saw from him last time, however he is exactly the type of player we need for this last spot. When he was with us he was our go to guy for toughness, and he wasn't comfortable doing that, with Lepine on the team this year I think he'd do a job for us. But too much happened last time with him that I wouldn't want him in a Panthers shirt again!!

Are you serious? We are in the small budget EIHL, not the KHL. Some of the players on this list have played in the NHL this year or last year while the majority of them are on 2-way NHL/AHL contracts Hi Bill. Yes I am serious. Not one of those players are unrealistic. There are many examples of D men signing into our league straight out of the AHL. 1). Gord Baldwin has never played in the NHL and is in his mid 20's. 2). Logan Stephenson has never played in the NHL and is in his mid 20's. 3). Zack Fitzgerald has never played in the NHL and is in his mid 20's. 4). Stu Bickel has never played in the NHL and is in his mid 20's. 5). Greg Amadio has never played in the NHL and is 30 years old. 6). Drew Bagnall has played a total of 2 NHL games and is 27. 7). Jake Taylor has never played an NHL game and is in his late 20's. 8). Drew Arsene has played a total of 13 NHL games and 0 last year. He is nearly 31. 9). Paul Baier has never played in the NHL and is in his mid 20's. 10). Joey Mormina has played in a total of 1 NHL game which was in 07/08. He is nearly 30. 11). Joe Loprieno has never played in the NHL and is in his mid 20's.

just a thought.... (don't shoot me)
but is AHL the best route? for me we've signed from there before and they turned out to be a let down (D'Amour comes to mind instantly)
if a YOUNG player is willing to look outside the AHL does this mean they show a lack of ambition / drive? as a young player i would expect them to WANT to play in the AHL for that ever present 'shot' at the NHL, god knows they won't get it in the EHIL.
therefore i would be looking for a maturer player coming from the AHL in terms of quality but then you risk getting a guy after a pay day.
For me, players hungry for some career success or good quality that know where their skills can take them will come from the ECHL, or Europes top end leagues (DEL etc).. maybe this is where the panthers should be looking? and i think some (not all) of the guys mentioned in the "top 10" thread on the forum are from lower leagues.. your Mike Rees, Kraijcheck, etc.
Don't get me wrong if we signed someone of Steve Munns, Gleeds, weller, Hoffman quality i wouldn't be moaning, its just a thought.

Yep some good points Lee. I agree that a lot of it is about the mentality of the player. The last thing you want is someone who is thinking that they are winding down in an easier league.

FTM I really don't think you understand the level the EIHL is at, if you were looking to come to Europe in terms of pay this is how far down the list the EIHL is: KHL Eliteserien Sm-Liga Swiss League Czech League DEL EBEL Slovakia Allsvenkan Mestis (finland) NLB 2nd Bundesliga (germany) Kazakhstan Mestis (finland) VHL 1.Liga (czech) Get-ligaen Serie A Al Bank Ligaen (Denmark) Ligue Magnus EIHLLiterally all those players you listed will be on the radars of the top few leagues where they will earn and I'm not exaggerating, basically the same amount as our whole squad put together. The only player I can think of that has come from a two-way deal from the AHL into the EIHL is Craig Weller (excluding lockout)

See these players are much more realistic and it is possible that we would be able to lure them to Nottingham. I think out of that bunch my favourite would be Brennan Turner, he is young, got good size and has had call ups to the AHL plus he played with Lepine

Damn straight he looks useful! Big, low points scoring (so... bit of a stay-at-home type?) and seems to defend well... looks like a good choice from that menu. If he can be served up with a side order of 'checks the living hell out of the opposition' and washed down with a glass of 'stays out of the penalty box' then yes, waiter... I'll order that one! ;D

However, we both know it's not that simple. Maybe the player wants to play in an English speaking league? Maybe the player wants to live in an English speaking country. Maybe a former colleague has recommended some good points about our team or city. Maybe he knows someone in the coaching staff. Maybe his wife wants to see England for a 6 months? Maybe the player has British relatives or ancestry. Before I go on further the point I am making is that it is not solely down to which is the best or biggest league. You never know unless you ask and as I already said there are plenty of examples of D men coming into our league straight from the AHL.

I really don't understand the point of threads like this. All we're doing is listing a bunch of names of people who happen to play in this league or that and are defensemen. No one has a clue if any of these chaps are in Corey's thoughts whatsoever so these aren't rumours at all just an overblown search on eliteprospects for a fantasy game of ice hockey manager. I'm guessing most peolpe haven't even heard of a lot of these guys until they show up in a search. Total waste of time both the research to put the post together and the reading!
Bah humbug. I'm taking my puck home.

Not they have looked at every free agent that has played hockey in the last year and lists their names.

Agreed. I want to hear about real 'rumors' not a list of d men who maybe fit the bill. Annoying.

Heard the John Schwarz rumour again last night. That's the 3rd time since the Playoffs and from 3 different people.
I think he would be alright personally.

Once everyone is signed the summer will become so much more tedious. 60 odd days!! Might aswell be years!
