Unfortunately 2 year contracts mean diddly squat in this league and sport. Any contract in the EIHL means didly squat when there is a two week notice period for either player or club. Two years offered to Danny shows commitment both to and from the player. That depends on what's in the contract. I know there's usually a two week notice period, but does the contract bar a player from leaving us to play for another team in this league or not? I'd have thought it should, but my memory isn't good enough to think of examples for/against.

I dont think it bars them from playing for another team but the original team could withold the players registration so stopping them from joining a rival

Heard this on Radio Nottingham as I was waking up this morning, what a lovely way to wake up! I figured Danny would come back but I'm sure like most, there was doubt as to whether we'd get Matt to come back or not! Great News!

I think the contracts dont allow players to sign for another team within the UK, without the consent of the current club, but there is nothing to stop them heading off abroad.

Think we all knew that Danny would be back, Myers on the other hand was perhaps 50/50, it's great news however on both counts, with retaining Myers, I would now like to see:
Forwards :
2 Imports + 1 Brit
2 Imports + 1 Brit
1 Import + 2 Brits
And then have 4 Import D-men along with Meyers and Lee so we have 3 even lines both upfront and at the back.

good news, although i have to admit i'm slightly disappointed not to see the Panthers freshen up their british contingent, i'd like to see us add some different players at some point.

I'm more than happy with our British contingent - it's one of if not the best bunch in the league. And continuity can only be a good thing in knowing what imports will mesh well.

I just think all the top end Brits are very loyal to their teams. Phil Hill would be one I'd love to see in the Black & Gold one day. If rumours I've heard about Ward and Norton going to the EPL next year are true, in 12 months time we may have 2 more players who develop like Lacho has....or end up staying in the EPL like James Neil and Joe Graham.

Who exactly - lets face it the game isnt exactly awash with top notch British players. Owen at Coventry, Peacock, Dowd, and Graside at Belfast, Hill at Cardiff, and Squires at Sheffield. After that Im struggling to see any other Brit Id want in a Panthers jersey. HL

I would take Hill or Owen as well, but no way instead of.

HL see your own answers to your own question... them + weaver, tait. don't get me wrong i think our brits are top notch i'd just like to see us mix it up now and again and try for others.

Great signing and with the new import limit matty is definitely going to come in handy. Can understand people wanting new blood in the ranks but with top british players being limited in number im happy we seem to have one of the loyalist contingents of britsh players. If it isnt broke dont fix it imo

For those who want new blood (to the Panthers, anyway) when it comes to British players... getting top-end Brits away from other teams is damned difficult - they'll cling on to 'em like grim death, just as we would for ours. In fact, we've probably got more than our 'fair share' as it were... when it comes to talented British players, we're doing damned well.
If we want new blood - young blood is the answer. Robert Lachowicz is a perfect example of this, but there's more coming up through our own junior system that could make an impact in a year or two.

Fantastic signings. There will always be top quality imports to sign but signing top quality Brits is vital - these two make our contingent look pretty solid. Some similar quality imports to the ones that finished the last season and we'd have every chance of the title.

In the evening post it said that Danny had signed a 2 year deal if that is right that is great news he has committed to us for 2 more seasons.

Why should we not question or debate such? That is, after all, what a forum such as this is for, is it not? And exactly how do you expect people to differentiate between what you call a "throw away comment" and any other comment? It's not as if it was clearly labelled as such...

Looks like Cardiff are going to have a right turn around now they've failed to sign Matthew.

Frankly I expected everyone to be doing cartwheels at this signing news, if either had gone to another team the criticism the management would have received would have been scary. Some perspective please these are 2 GB internationals, at least one is, in my uninformed view, irreplaceable in the current set up. Sheffield are envious, what the hell else do you all want???!!!! I am ecstatic they are both back, stop carping and try a little support for a swift, opponent demoralizing double signing.

To be fair, people are allowed to make such points, are they not? - just as the rest of us are free to disagree with them. Telling people to "stop carping" is a bit off...
