The following was posted by Rick Strang, medical officer of London Racers on the THF forum.
I've already passed on the contact details he asks for and I've also mentioned that unforunately I suspect many of our fans won't make this one due to having the Amiens trip the following weekend which makes it incredibly unlucky timing. However I did offer to post his request here along with his good wishes for Amiens. If you can get to this game, please do!
A fairly common request across UK hockey no doubt but I am making a special plea this time.
The Racers have been "stuck" with Friday night ice time with a 20:00 face-off (-ish ) since they started. We believe that this is not a good time to come and see hockey and as well as disadvantaging our own fans it makes it very difficult for away fans to get down to games. Consequently our gates are small and although they have picked up with the new team they are still way below what we need to make the team a going concern. The rink we play out of is fully booked and we need to respect the ice time of other users. However we truly believe that a Sunday afternoon is the prime time for hockey and we have been lobbying the rink and trying to work with the other users to get a Sunday slot. It is however something of a Holy Grail.
Nevertheless we have obtained one-off permission to play on Sunday 10th October against the Nottingham Panthers. The rink are using this as an experiment to see if the crowds are any bigger and whether that in turn means they get better gate receipts and greater concession sales (food, beer etc).
I would ask therefore that if you are only coming to one Racers game this season PLEASE COME TO THIS ONE!
I cannot stress how important to the viability of the club it is to pack the place out on a Sunday and show that it works. We do need your support so if you're in the area please pop-in. We'll assure you of a warm welcome and I'd love to meet some of you. I may even stretch to sticking a couple of quid over the bar for some beers!
Meanwhile, if anyone can put me in contact with the Panthers travel people we are prepared to put a donation towards coach travel and offer discounted adult tickets if you can rustle up two or three coaches of noisy, excitiable Panthers fans that can be a good advert for hockey. What the heck ... if they can be bothered to come down we'll even welcome the silent nerdy ones too
To be fair this should be a great game even for the neutral. The Racers ran the Panthers close on the big ice up in Nottingham and now we're looking for revenge and proof of our superiority. For the Panthers part they must surely be looking to put these southern upstarts in their place. It should be good entertainment!
Thanks for your time and please help if you can.
