This guy was drafted ahead of Tanguay, Regehr, Gomez and even Gagne. Bet Carolina are loving that pick. He is going to rip this league apart!

A little bit controversial however, I think D.A.B. is somewhat a luxury, now don't get me wrong, a fantastic goalscorer, but when he dosn't score goals he realy dosn't offer too much. I.M.O. tracks back defends gets stuck in what more do you want form him??

getting rid of DAB??? That's crazy talk man! I assume (well, hope) he means scratch DAB for a game or two, rather than gas him, but at 18 goals already (and 17 assists although that's pinch of salt time) I don't see how you sit him before some of the others.

seems a quality signing, interesting the wording used in the press release "for now no one leaves the panthers" seems to suggest that eventually one will. i expect one of Penner / nikolov / mcdonald to be released soon. I wouldn't be expecting anyone to be leaving... not unless the player himself requests it. We've kept 'spare' players on the books before for a whole season... no reason why it shouldn't happen again. And I'm guessing that the "for now" comment is merely because nobody knows what the future will bring... because you just know that if they had just said "no-one will leave" and later on someone does (for whatever reason) there'd be bound to be a bunch of complaints and accusations that they lied etc. i know what you mean, and its obvioulsy been done before with us carrying an extra import, its just the wording used that makes me think there may be more to this signing than first let on. normally you'd expect something along the lines of simplay saying !this signing give panthers the opportunity to carry an extra import and rotate the squad" playing it in a positive light, the wording of stating no one leave at this point in time just makes it sound odd...maybe i'm reading more into it than there is. time will tell

Like I wrote, it's my opinion, to me he's the Jimmy Greaves of hockey, also just to add a little more controversy, my choice if I had one would be bye bye Penner, but hey, just might keep them all, but somehow doubt it.I.M.O.

Played on the same team as Mike Prpich last year.
Prpich got 8 points from 47 games.
Heerema got 24 points from 28 games.

It'd be a shame to get rid of Penner, I also cant see Penner being the kind of player who would want to sit on a bench, he'd want to be playing..
We have enough strength throughout the team so it could make sense.

Whats with all the negative waves "gas him, leave out him, blah, blah, blah"?
Panthers have just signed, from his stats at least, one of the best forwards in the league by a fair margin. Enjoy the moment folks, leave the usual negative stuff for another day.
To add, why the hell would they gas Penner?
One of the things that has got the opposition fans and players most rattled this season is Panthers new found team toughness. Penner is a huge part of that.
Heerema, although it seems a quality goal scorer, is not a fighter by any stretch (9 fights in 12 seasons, Galbraith has managed 18 in 9!) and he will probably need someone to watch his back.

unless there is a player sidelined through injury, i can only see it being macdonald. So many other teams/fans say how much they dislike penner, which means he must be doing his job well.
At the moment macdonald is probably the least influential player on the team. I guess it just depends on who will be on which line???

To me Penner would be the obvious choice to sit down - at the end of the day there's very few players out there prepared to fight him and sit themselves out for 5 minutes because of it. Most other teams with a player able to hold their own against him, are the teams where said player is valuable and can also play a big part in their actual hockey game.
However as someone said, it should be based on who's a bit achey or sore so they can rest up.

Wow, this guy is seriously top drawer! Up to this season I usually sign him for my 3rd line on NHL! Only 30 too which is prime tbh!
I fear ultimately McDonald could make way. Penner is too much of a marketing tool at the moment, although he may sit a couple of games

WTF SERIOUSLY?!?!?!
We've just signed a damn good player by all accounts. There is no need to gas anyone.
We've got a squad to use, we'll use it.
Flip me, I'm thinking we could sign Jerome Iginla and some of you lot would still bloody moan.
We should be SUPPORTING the players, ALL the players, not whinging.

I think it'll be spread evenly depending on how corey sees it. And tbh don't be surprised if we see a defender sit now and again, because lets not forget that corey started the defender with three import defenceman, so what is going to stop him doing it for the odd game throughout the season. After all, Kowalski is at the top of his game anyways, so as long as he keeps up that form, will corey think that we will need all four import defenceman in when he knows his keeper is solid? As for releasing penner, I think it would be a bad move. Yes he can be a liability at times, but what enforcers ain't? He does his job reasonably well, however I don't pretend to know a hell of a lot about enforcers but he must be a decent quality that he is a decent enforcer, because he has proved to everyone this season that he can play hockey too, and I like the thought of having a enforcer who has an average all round game, which penner does, and I think points wise we are getting more from him than I certainly expected during the season.
Out of the whole squad though, I think that it will either be McDonald or Nikolov sitting for the majority of the time. I have nothing against them both, but McDonald isn't big enough or strong enough for physical games, so he would be the one who gives way then, but seeing as we've just recently signed nikolov full time, I would imagine that corey has sat down with him and told him his plans that he was planning to bring someone else in, which would benefit Nikolov because he stated that when he signed, he didn't want to play 50-60 games a season, so by having the extra import, when playing the less offensive teams, those will be the games that he would be likely to sit, because those games I think we could get away with returning to running a 3 import defence.

What looks like a fabulous signing. Welcome to Nottingham! Did anyone else see he's a cousin of the Staals?

No doubt had he been availible this weekend we'd have rested a dman against Hull in order to ensure a win. We always assume itll be a forwards but against Dundee will we need 4 import D? I think not and I think at some points in the season we'll go to 3 import D and 7 import forwards with Kowalski and others 4 import D 6 import forwards and Kowalski.

..if you don't like it don't post. Go on, only 'It's a panthers forum, expect panthers bias' for the cage rhetoric hattrick! Heerema looks like he has some serious quality, well played Panthers for bringing a guy of this calibre in.

Welcome to Nottingham Jeff.
In terms of who'll make way, I think it'll vary depending on who we are playing - squad game after all so pick the players who'll suit individual games. First dropped player will be those carrying knocks.
Would be nice to see Corey sit on the side line for a couple and have a look at his team from the side - you never know he might even see some opportunities to change things up then.

Can we stop all this talk about gassing players no need for anyone to go No, but there will be a need for one of them to sit out each week, which is what most of the talk is about (as opposed to getting rid of someone).
