Game was in the balance at 1-0 Stars, then a poor call IMO from Hanson, (with Stars killing a penalty (only seconds remaining) Makway called for delay game, he tried to clear the puck around the boards behind his goal, I thought it took a bad bounce and hit the nets above the boards behind the goal, clearly wasn't meant but Hanson calls 2mins. Panthers then immediately score on the resulting 5on3, then to make matters worse then score just after on the 5on4, one bad call results in 2 goals. Took the sting right out the game I thought. Re Penner v Harper, players lining up for face-off Penner is told to get on the ice, swaps places with the player lining up alongside Harper and offers Harper which he accepts, and convincingly beaten albeit with Penner failing to hit with most of his shots. If McMorrow had done what Penner done, he would be called a goon, Penner does it your fans thought he was a hero. Good win for you guys though, be interesting to hear what any Panthers fans at the game thought of the Makway delay game incident, they were closer to it than me (Stars TV on youTube normally shows dodgy decisions for clarification, it may be on there in a couple of days) I wasn't there so can't comment on whether the puck went straight out or not. Based on what you have said though, it sounds like it went straight into the net above the glass so I'm sorry but if that's the case then it's a penalty. The rule states that if a player hits the puck straight over the glass from his defensive zone then it's a 2min delay of game penalty. There is nothing in the rule about intention or no intention, in fact I'm sure 99% of the time it is not intentional and is just a misjudgment on the players part. But that's the rule I'm afraid.

I though it went off the boards first, not straight into the nets.
Thanks for reminding me though, I'm well aware that if the defending team clear the puck from there zone straight over the boards its a delay game penalty by the rules, we all know though that the ref on occassion will actually call it sensibly in that if he deems it to be un-intentional it doesn't get called, just our rotten luck that it resulted in 2 goals.

Of course it's by the rules. And any ref that calls it differently is doing a bad job... come on, if it were the other way around, wouldn't you be saying exactly the same thing? We all complain about the refs missing this, that and the other... it would be a tad hypocritical to reverse that, wouldn't it? And I wouldn't call it "rotten luck" that it resulted in 2 goals... sounds like good play by our team!

2 points from a long road trip - against what appears to be a rapidly improving Stars team - I'll take that. As for Hanson doing a disservice to the Stars - well a change is a good a rest - cant remember when Hanson last gave us anyhting in Scotland to be honest HL

Interestingly, one Stars fan on THF describes the DOG penalty call as being fair (and I quote, "a legit delay of game penalty") but complains about the preceding tripping call against Dundee, saying the following:- Thoughts from anyone who saw the game?

I actually thought the Sudermann penalty was correct, as I didn't see him getting the puck, whereas the Makway one was harsh, who'd be a ref eh?
Hopefully Stars TV will clear both up.....
Re 'rotten luck', I stand by that, if only 1 of those calls was wrong, coupled with the fact that the 3rd went in off Zarbs' skate, then it can only be described as rotten luck.
Would the result have been affected? Probably not, you have a better team Than us, and you outshot us, doesn't make it easier to take though... Only saving grace is that it looks like the gap is closing..

Looks like I probably got both calls wrong as there are quite a few fans of the opinion that Sudermann got the puck first on his sliding poke-check before taking out the player, and quite a few folks saying that Makways was indeed a delay game penalty.

On the DOG penalty, intent is irrelevant... if it did go over the plexi without touching it first, then it was the correct call. We should know, we've had a few ourselves as well... As for the poke-check... looks like we'll have to wait for the video replay (if any)... if Sudermann got the puck first, bad call (probably)... if he didn't, correct call (also probably!).

On a more serious point, I noticed a Panther fan was taken ill at the match and was attended by the first aid crew. On the way home i saw an ambulance arrive at the back door to I presume to take the lad to hospital.I hope he made it home safe and well.

Three of us travelled up to Dundee and had a cracking time. Long old drive on a Sunday though. Great arena and I hope Dundee stay in the Elite League for many years.
The Sudermann call was a tough one that none of us can agree on. I thought he pulled him down but my nephew disagrees and says he got the puck? however the following call on Makaway for delay of game was spot on. He tried to shoot the puck round the plexy but missed and shot it straight into the net. He had to go and yes we did score twice and it kind of took the wind out of their sails. (Hanson is about as popular up there as Carson is in Nottingham).
The game was poor all round but Panthers did this year what we have failed to do for many years. Win!! We ground out a dirty road win. We had key players out and Clarke knackered his skate and kept messing around. Lepine missed a big hit and limped off. Meyers was limping quite bad after the game but despite all this we ground out a gritty raod win 350 miles away from home on a Sunday night. Good on them!
My nephew was the one that was taken away in the Ambulance. He stepped over the seats and his knee went sideways. An old war wound has come back to haunt him. Shame we spent the end of the night in Ninewells Hospital but he's home and waiting to see a specialist. Thanks for everyone's concern and thanks to the Saint Johns guys on site.
Let's hope Panthers and the Elite league organise a double header up there because I would love to spend a weekend there. Long, long way to go for one night.

Seems he got the puck, oh well, at least it wasn't a ban for checking the puck carrier......

This report pretty much sums up the game for me ; dundeestars.com/news/news_item.asp?NewsID=355Interview with Sudermann which includes footage of his sliding poke-check which incurred a 2min penalty ; www.youtube.com/user/dundeestarstvAnd they say our fans have rose tinted Glasses, if this had been written by Mick Holland he would have been castigated by every other fan in the league... Jeez..

Looking where Hanson was, I guess he did not see the puck been played first.
Panthers have been called on poor decisions by Hanson when he has been so far away from the play (not breakaways) that he might as well have been in another rink.

Hanson owed us that one for the penalty against Rasto for "throwing his blocker at the puck", when it was knocked out of his hand in the challenge. ;D Seems he got the puck, oh well, at least it wasn't a ban for checking the puck carrier......
