whats the update from 2010? which in my opinion was pretty good, the added off the puck scuffles and so forth..... can't see the point in spending £50 on the same game as last year but updated teams, and few new moves thrown in. If there are radicle changes then fair enough.

Ill be getting it on PS3 - I think the reason for getting the updated version is so there are people to play online with - NHL 10 will come redundant for that feature when NHL 11 comes out!

If there are radicle changes then fair enough. There's new faceoffs, deke's and hitting engine they seem to of put alot of work into the physics of how players/puck should move. downloaded the demo for this today, i can't jump on board the "this is amazing" train i'm afraid.
the only decent addition i can see that they have made is the ultimate team league, other than that a new face off set up and a hip check doesn't warrant purchasing this if you own 2010 in my opinion, i'll wait for NHL 2012.

Oh I'm not the only one thinking the same then? To be honest, I think the game is a hell of a lot slower than previous games which makes it absolutely tosh for a fast sport. EA seemed to have made it more realistic in certain parts, but the gameplay seriously seems to have been neglected. The new faceoff thing didn't jump out at me either and the stick breaking will become beyond a joke soon enough. I won't be bothering with this one I'm afraid. I like Lee will stick with my copy of 2010 for now.

I have to say that I've thought that for a while; the amount of times I've had players standing on the door step, you get a one timer off and the goalie saves it, yet you do a simple deke coming off the wing and the goalie gets completely fooled and you can walk the puck in. A little bit too much emphasis on "realism."

I love the NHL 11 demo. The physics-engine is the thing that does it for me. I've had enough with going for a hit and then watching the same animation that can sometimes be utterly ridiculous. I like seeing the puck respond more appropriately to what's going on on the ice. I like seeing more appropriate responses to hits - sometimes a player gets completely knocked off the puck, sometimes there's just a slight wobble, sometimes a huge hit.
I wish there was a way to skip the stanley cup scene you have to watch at the end of the 3rd period in the demo tho. That's getting a bit irritating now.

cannot wait. i just got my nhl10 disc repaired at asda in west bridgford. my old xbox chewed it up and put some pretty deep scratches around the edge of the disc, but after 2 minutes in the machine they have, it works as good as new.
so for the next 2 weeks i'll be able to play hockey, but once the new game comes out i'll trade it in.

I was thinking the other day that EA should make additional leagues downloadable.
eg if you want to play as Panthers in the Elite league it costs and extra £5 to download from the playstation network (or xbox equivalent)
Wonder how many people would go for this?

It's a good idea in theory but I doubt many would go for it to make it feasbile for them. I mean if we break it down - this leagues a minority in this country so initial interest in the game is limited, Then only a percentage of these fans will buy this game. Out of that not everyone is going to want to pay extra money or may not have the online capabilties to do so. So by the time EA has done the research and whatnot, theyd probably have to charge £50 a download!

At some point they'll probably have the elite league in there. I mean, the number of leagues has grown steadily since 08 or 09. They have some european leagues in there. With the systems and the databases etc all set up, it probably won't be that difficult to get the data in there for new leagues. If they do add the EIHL, they won't do it for a few iterations of course.

Just downloaded a copy of the game for the 360 here are my first impressions. It seems a slower paced game allowing plays to be set up easier, I only played on medium and created lots of scoring chances. I played Pens vs Leafs, Crosby is 93 and Malkin 92 so very strong up the middle. Rosters are outdated Ponikorovsky (sp?) is still with the Pens. The biggest improvement is the hitting every hit was different, you can actually flatten people on this version with the stronger players delivering some really good hits, while Crosby etc did not do much/any damage. One improvement the puck was stuck somewhere on the goalie, usually I would have to poke check until it came about but on 11 the ref blew the play dead after a few seconds, the commentators even commented on him not being able to see the puck. Sadly I have to go into work now so wont get a good play until tomorrow. Any questions though please ask and I will find out.

Not sure if its on the demo but by holding in right analogue stick you attempt a hip check, sometimes they result in totally missing the opposition player but when they hit it is sublime!
