I hope the story about Clive Woodward joining the set-up is true.
Please no Venables, ta.

A target in each top corner. After training has ended the penalty taker has to hit the target 5 consecutive times before he can leave the training pitch. It's hard to believe they don't do something like that already - given the importance of penalty shootouts in big competitions. Crikey, when I used to play field hockey (in the dim and distant mists of time...), we had practice regimes that encouraged the placement of penalty shots into the top corners of the goal where the goalie had no chance of reaching them... It worked for us then and the Germans showed it still works now when they took penalties. Football in this country really has lost it's way of late.

From what I understand they take the odd penalty after practice. Carra had scored 19 out of 20 in all the training weeks.
It sounds like going thru the rouitine rather than intense training. Tiger, Stephen Hendry, Phil the Power and Roger Federer would not be impressed.

Venables didn't work before, why will it now? He got us further in a major tourney than anyone else since 1990! Euro 96 Played 5, won 2, drawn 3, lost 0. FWC 02 Played 5, won 2, drawn 2, lost 1. Euro 04 Played 4, won 2, drawn 1, lost 1. FWC 06 Played 5, won 3, drawn 2, lost 0. Tel is a hero and Sven a muppet? Yet Sven did better in Germany than Tel did at Wembleby in 96. It's also worth remembering the suspicious officiating in the Eng v Spain Q/F game when Spain had 3 legit goals ruled offside.

If McClaren starts doing badly what's the betting Tel offeres to step forward and take over 'for the good of the nation'?
If we're doing well then he'll happily take the credit.
The guy can't lose.

Because Sven is a foreigner....and xenophobia is alive & kicking in 2006 If McClaren starts doing badly what's the betting Tel offeres to step forward and take over 'for the good of the nation'? Three things:
Stinking racists is a bit strong. There is no doubt that some always disliked him because he was not English.
Secondly, sack the Swede should've been Sack Sven. Or Sven OUT. With Adey it was never Sack the Canadian! I appreciate there may have been a play on the Sack the Turnip campaign.
Thirdly, WTF does illiteration mean???
Just for the record;
Sven is the 2nd most successful coach of England and the most successful coach of England on foreign soil. Just shows how rubbish we are.

Yeah Sunbeam I think the word Newham is looking for (but mis-typed)is alliteration, not illiteration. This is where, I'm sure you're aware, sentences are composed of words starting with the same letter continuously. A bit like the old tongue twister Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepper.

Don't patronise me Shinobi, you know perfectly well there is a fine line between the two. Racism - Discrimination or prejudice based on race. Xenophobia - Contempt of strangers or foreign peoples.

Im not surprised really, im glad he got it, hopefully will motivate the troops more than Mr Beckham did I'd have gone with SG but I've no probs with JT. It's not important as far as the on-pitch performance is concerned. It's more to do with dealing with the media and the commercial side. That's why Becks was so good. Unlike rugby or cricket, I don't think it means squat to what happens on the park.
