Bloody Big Sam. What's the point. Fine, he's helped Bolton out of the Championship/Division One/Division Two/Second tier in English football, but he's far from up to being the England manager. Like Adam said, it would be disasterous if he or Alan Curbishley took the top job.
However, I would like to see Steve Mclaren up there if the manager was English

There was one on the radio today too. Had to chose from Mclaren, Big Sam ot Pearce. Even Pearce who is far too new at Management(tho in 10 years time he could be an awesome choice) was miles ahead of Mclaren in the opinion poll!

Why? Im guessing cause of Theo Walcott... Because he's the best young English talent I've ever seen and has the potential to be our Henry, Ronaldhino, Messi, Nedved or Totti. BTW, I first heard a couple of years ago that Barca, and not Man Utd, had the best teenage footballer. Thanks to the Chelsea game everybody now knows about Messi. A little heads-up for the world cup, Messi may not even be Argentina's best player: Tevez. And the rumour is that the reason why this deal was able to happen was because Corinthians' real owner is a certain Russian. Theo is one of 4 outstanding teenagers in football that I know of: Messi Theo MikelAdu. Throw in 22 year old Tevez and it's possible that 3 of those 5 players could soon be at Chelsea. No wonder Wenger broke the bank for Theo! Nice to see that The Special One and Sven are both avid readers of the Cage. TSO was in Brazil last week watching Tevez with a mind to bidding £25m for him. And Svennis has picked da wunderkid. Whatever next?.......

Anyway, there are those who whisper that they are both owned by the same Russian.......

Very true i knew his escape clause was around $100 million, So even if they get £25 million for him i think personally they will be happy. Considering they only paid £10 million for him which i thought was a steal so they'll earn there selfs a nice profit.

Michael Dawson and Marlon harewood could be in the England squad soon if we're lucky!
Back to Messi, there's no doubting he's a quality player but i've not been overly impressed with him in the numerous Barca games i've seen him in. He's not as good as Rooney for certain.

Maybe he isn't. Maybe he is. My guess is that Messi turns out to be the bigger star. Time will tell. Looks like Rooney is recovering: link

He could play in the first game? Wonderful news, but let's not get our hopes up:
Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has been declared fit for England's opening World Cup match. The Sun says scan results indicate Rooney will be ready for the World Cup kickoff and England legend Jimmy Greaves said: "Everyone may be surprised but I'm not. I always thought Wayne would be fit and ready to lead us in Germany.
"People were getting really worried, writing off our World Cup chances before a ball had even been kicked. But I just knew in my heart of hearts he'd be okay.
"Everything is coming right for England just at the right time.
"We have three weeks to go and if there are any lingering doubts, they will be blown out of the water when we take on Paraguay on June 10."

Very impressed by Lennon tonight. He looks like a future star with tremendous talent. If only he wasn't at Spurs......
Rotten luck for Green. Terrible blow for him.
It was a good work-out for us with Lennon, A Cole and Sol looking good. Nice to see Owen come thru ok and ease people's worries. Joe Cole should be ashamed of his theatrics.

Rooney will not return to training for at least 3 weeks. Sounds like he may be able to be a sub for the 2nd round game and may be ok for a quarter final. He should be fine for a semi.
Pretty much what was diagnosed to begin with.

The result doesn't matter, the performances of Owen, Walcott and most of all Lennon are what's vitally important to us. Lennon is massively unlucky that we have such a good midfield as it is, he's going to be awesome.

Looks like Rooney will not be allowed to travel to the WC by Man Utd. Apparently he is behind schedule and that is why the scan has been brought forward.
England will replace him with Defoe.

England team to play Hungary tonight... Robinson, Gary Neville, Ferdinand, Terry, Ashley Cole, Carragher, Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard, Joe Cole, Owen. Subs: Bridge, James, Phil Neville, Dawson, Campbell, Hargreaves, Carrick, Jenas, Lennon, Downing, Carson, Walcott, Crouch, Defoe, Johnson, Foster. With Carragher playing just in front of the back four.. I'm not sure i agree with it or not!

Poor game, but decent result. The Coles were excellent, Beckham was fantastic and it was nice to see Terry break his England duck, excellent finish by Crouch too.
I don't agree with the experimentation at this stage, thats what the friendlies during the season are for. These games are for getting your strongest XI gelling together and used to playing with each other. I don't think Sven has a clue what to do.

These games are for getting your strongest XI gelling together and used to playing with each other. I don't think Sven has a clue what to do. His plans went out the window with Rooney and King. He now has to decide whether to play an anchor (and if so whom) or whether to play 4/4/2. Owen can't play without a partner and Crouch is playing well. None of the anchors seem to be quite good enough so it may well be 4/4/2. He should consider an anchor next to Gerrard and drop Lampard. Those who say Becks should be dropped looked a little silly.

Brill performance by Beckham and Carragher!! Couldn't pick a Man of the Macth between them! Was there last night, quite a few around slating Theo a bit, but did look out of place! As for Hargreaves....no comment! Great atmosphere, got right behind the lads and they deserved the win! Would like to see Owen and Theo on Sat, see how that works but was great seeing Gerrard upfront but couldn't get used to it! As long as King doesn't score on sat il be happy ;D

Tuesday night was a case of getting the job done and beating the team in front of you, which is what you need to do in the group stages at the World Cup, so it bodes well from that viewpoint.
On the individual performances:
Owen looked well off the pace, needs match fitness and his first touch was dreadful (in marked contrast to Crouch who I thought showed great control when he came on, and scored with an excellent finish). Beckham's passing and crossing were somewhere close to his best, although I prefer to see him get more involved in open play.
Gerrard showed flashes of his ability, and demonstrated to me that he is capable of playing behind a single striker - he has the awareness, ball carrying skills and striking ability to thrive in that role.
Joe Cole is greedy, which is frustrating at times, but if he gets enough of the ball he will create chances for himself and others with his skill. Will be a key player in Germany. I wish he would pack up the theatrical diving though, it's embarrassing.
Defence looked reasonably solid, although we seemed to struggle clearing crosses effectively at times. Robinson stood no chance with the Hungary goal and didn't make any errors that I noticed. Ashley Cole looked his normal self going forward, but looked more shakey than usual in his defensive duties, hopefully a combination of lack of match practice and holding back to avoid injury in the friendlies.
Lampard - largely anonymous. One of the worst games I have seen him play for a long time, in the second half I kept wondering if I had missed him being subbed. And he missed the penalty.
OK, the holding midfield role. I thought Carragher was miles better than Hargreaves (although he allegedly plays a similar role for Bayern). In the first half, Carragher was England's best player for me, always covering when Hungary picked up the ball and getting the tackle in. I would worry over his ball carrying and distribution though. I have never seen anything to convince me that Hargreaves can be an effective member of an England team, so Carrick must be worth a try in this position. We have the option of switching to the more defensively-sound Carragher if we are defending a lead or really struggling for possession maybe.
Crouch - see above. In my eyes he has gone from being an "is the manager on drugs?" selection to a player who actually looks capable of making a contribution.
Walcott - Didn't get the chance to show much, but made some good runs in behind the centre backs and was willing to go for goal when he got the ball. Certainly no nerves on his first cap.
