Combined both the 'Premiership' and 'England' threads to make a general football thread for all non-Forest or County talk!

Sweden seeded ahead of Spain and Germany?? England have a great draw and should be fine. Especially since 3 of the 4 candidates for the England job have good records. Scotland and N Ireland have no chance and Wales and Ireland are probably toast too.

Congratulations to Scotland, who have gotten this far without being knocked out

We really could not have had a better draw if we had hand-picked our opponents from each pot. Failure is not an option.

I would be tempted to have 'Theo' on the back though........ Why? Im guessing cause of Theo Walcott... Because he's the best young English talent I've ever seen and has the potential to be our Henry, Ronaldhino, Messi, Nedved or Totti. BTW, I first heard a couple of years ago that Barca, and not Man Utd, had the best teenage footballer. Thanks to the Chelsea game everybody now knows about Messi. A little heads-up for the world cup, Messi may not even be Argentina's best player: Tevez. And the rumour is that the reason why this deal was able to happen was because Corinthians' real owner is a certain Russian. Theo is one of 4 outstanding teenagers in football that I know of: Messi Theo MikelAdu. Throw in 22 year old Tevez and it's possible that 3 of those 5 players could soon be at Chelsea. No wonder Wenger broke the bank for Theo!

Messi is no way near as good as Rooney.

Messi is no way near as good as Rooney. Messi has done it against big teams in La Liga and the Champs League. When's the last team you saw Rooney have a big performance against quality opposition? So far Rooney is nothing but a flat-track bully. Messi will cause the Milan defence problems if they meet in the semi final. Rooney might as well havee not been on the pitch.

Remember Rooney vs Arsenal a few years back? Rooney has performed to a high level in the most competitive league in the world (i don't believe all that Spanish nonsense) for 3/4 years now, along with single-handedly carrying his nation in the Euro Champs. Messi has barely played for his nation and when he has turned out for Barca in big games he has been horribly over-rated. He was garbage in the second leg in Chelsea whilst he was on the pitch. Rooney > Messi every day of the week, and that's not national bias.

Am i alone in being hacked off with the constant 'Curbs has the Job' 'Big Sam has the job' and 'Steve McLaren has' the job speculation on the back pages with each contender taking it in turns to be the supposed fron runner?
Why Can't the FA do everyone a favour by either:-
A) Naming the successful candidate straight away. Then at least their club has enough time to find a replacement.
OR
B) Stating categorically that no formal interviews will take place until the regular season is over and that there are no leading candidates until the formal interview procedure starts.
I appreciate that Fleet Street needs to keep business ticking over and such speculatiom sells papers but I can't help but feel the FA have totally mishandled what should be a straight forward piece of clear communication.

Why an't the FA do us all a favour and hire a good manager? Scolari would have been perfect, as would Hiddink but no, we're going all patriotic and naming the average English managers instead.
I'd love to be wrong, but Curbs, Allardyce or McLaren would be disastrous appointments.
