A country of less than 2m people, with a team ranked 113th in the world and a national league whose best supported team pulls in less than Mansfield Town.
Yeh Fifa, this is a country mad for football. The wrong choice as always.

Yeh Fifa, this is a country mad for football. The wrong choice as always. It was done more for the Middle Eastern support. UAE, Saudi Arabia and so forth who are mad on sport of all kind, just cant play them. However on both deals they're building so much on promises rather than hard cash. Especially the Russian bid. Most of the infrastructure and stadiums built there are built with the promise of cash once the World Cup is over. Russia actually don't have the capital to do this as some think. It wouldn't surprise me if alot of what is promised doesn't come and we get some crappy almost finished stadiums with no rail links or airports to get the players to them. I mean yeah the stadium plans look fantastic for both, but Fifa is doing this for the back handers and to get at the Free press that we have in the UK.

admittedly they look impressive but its a ridiculous place to have it.... to the point that they are having to move the tournament to the winter because its too hot in summer.
and as mentioned, the middle east is obviously well known for its football traditions =/
stupid

As a sports fan it'd be nice to have the World cup here, but as a tax payer I'm inclined to say let them have it. They can afford it. Wish they'd got the Olympics too.

After the 2022 World Cup had been awarded, Sepp Blatter was asked who his favourite Qatar player was. He replied it's a toss up between Eric Clapton and The Edge.
