Part of me feels sorry for him - he's not the only one to do drugs in this league and he certainly won't be the last. He just got caught and has had to face the music.
If you drug tested every player in this league randomly over the course of a season, i'd put money on losing at least 50% of them in similar circumstances to this.
(I'd like to add that I do not condone drug use at all, not one bit, but think the testing needs to be a lot more consistent in order to catch people)

Ridiculous , not controversial .
Most players are Brits alot with families , to say that half of them are crack heads is ridiculous

Ridiculous , not controversial . Most players are Brits alot with families , to say that half of them are crack heads is ridiculous The playoffs a few seasons back there was a big group of players out together. Out of the group about 80% of them where quite openly enjoying things they shouldn't. It will be a shock to some but recreational drug use is rife in British hockey!!

Most players are Brits alot with families , to say that half of them are crack heads is ridiculous I don't think any of them are likely to be 'crack heads', even those doing drugs. Crack cocaine is not generally a drug you can take and maintain a healthy enough lifestyle to compete as a professional sportsman. I agree though that the belief that 50% may be using recreational drugs is ridiculous and is a pretty absurd statement for even someone who thinks cheerleading is a sport to make. Of course I'm no puck bunny or buck, hanging around players, pretending to be their mate and then telling all on internet forums, so what would I know eh? As for more rigorous testing, I fully agree in respect of performance-enhancing drugs.

What we need to know is the testing procedures from the EIHL How do they pick on who they test; why not do a whole team at a time or is that not practical.

Only ten teams, so should get round a few players in a season.but how often do they do this testing?

What we need to know is the testing procedures from the EIHL How do they pick on who they test; why not do a whole team at a time or is that not practical. It has little to do with the league, drug testing of all sports personnel being the remit of the UK Anti-Doping Agency. Individuals are chosen at random from the lists that are provided to them from the various governing organisations (IHUK in this case). Have a look on the UKAD site for further details.

No. Would I bet half of the league's players (brits and imports) have occasionally used an illegal substance? I'd put money on it. You don't even need to be close to players to find it out.

He was lucky when he was at Newcastle.
Makes you wonder who turns a blind eye seeing as Thommo is big buddies with Rob Wilson, until the player gets caught that is,then it's different.......oh my word we can't have one of our players doing that, sack him immediately !

Bearing in mind he had a season at Sheffield in between Newcastle and Coventry, and a lot of the time you can't fault the effort he gives on the ice. Questionable off ice antics or not, he was one of the few players you could count on to turn up and give 100% ON the ice. Of course, had his off-ice antics been marginally more sensible, he'd have been too good for this league...

We had a player who was caught "powdering his nose" inbetween periods a couple of seasons back. A blind eye was turned to that. Like I said recreational drug use is rife in our league.

while I doubt it is as widespread as it was 5 - 10 years ago, you can almost say for certain that it is still a very big problem throughout our league.
How many players actually got tested from our league anyway? did they test the whole Coventry team, a handful or just Domish?

In fact I have just look on the UKAD site and from September to December there was only 8 players tested. There were only 20 tests in the 2011-2012 season
Ice Hockey UK players in this country only get tested in competition between September and March. Plus the UKAD only started testing IHUK players in 2011-12 season
In the last 2 years 3 EIHL players have been found with illegal substances in their bodies -
Jeremy Tendler (Banned 6 weeks, due to cannabis been in something that he didnt realise or something along those lines )
Brent Hughes (banned 1 month, taking illegal substance but was effectively let off because of medical condition)
Jeremy Domish (presumably going to be banned for 2 years since he has admitted taking illegal substance)
So in that time I believe in those two year approximately 30-40 players have been tested and 3 have been found with illegal substances in their body and 2 of them have been banned.

I personally have seen players taking things when out on nights in Nottingham. It's nothing new to UK Ice Hockey and unless the league, clubs and UKAD all work together this will continue to be the case.
it no doubt effects the outcome of games and performance. Something of which the paying fans should not tolerate.
